He was the son of John and Barbara (Berlin) Hutzler. He was naturalized in New York, on September 22, 1856. He married Margaret Weaver (date and location unknown to me) and they raised nine children together, five daughters and four sons.

1) James Frances. James married twice: first to Mary M. Rivers then to Sara Agnes Rodgers.
2) William Clare. William married Agnes, "Mary Agnes" Cypher.
3 Barbara Ellen "Ella". Barbara married Samuel McClain Allen.
4) Peter Anthony. Peter married Gertrude Ellen Rivers on June 4,1899 in Coylesville, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
5) Charles Francis. Charles married Mary T. McCarren.
6) Margaret. Margaret married Samuel David Freehling on January 3, 1900, in Butler County, Pennsylvania
