 Allan Dean "Denny" Burkett, 79, of Evans City died Wednesday morning at UPMC Passavant hospital, McCandless Township. Born Aug. 13, 1927, in Evans City, he was the son of Orrell M. and Nellie Sutton Burkett. He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Evans City. Mr. Burkett retired from Metropolitan Insurance Co. as an agency manager. He then retired from Mine Safety Appliance Co., Evans City, after 15 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach. He also spent time at Thompson's morning coffee group. He was a former member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Martha Lee Gandy Burkett, whom he married June 10, 1949; a son and his wife, James D. and Verna Ann Burkett of Mercer; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Gerald Penna of Erie; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jared Penna, both of Erie. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William Burkett. BURKETT - Friends of Allan Dean "Denny" Burkett, who died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Park, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Evans City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 330 E. Main St., Evans City, PA 16033; or to Evans City Volunteer Fire Co., Jackson St., Evans City, PA 16033.
